RAPID: real-time automated plankton identification dashboard using Edge AI at sea

RAPID runs a ResNet classifier on an Edge AI device connected to the Plankton Imager aboard the RV Cefas Endeavour, sorting particle images into copepods, non-copepod zooplankton and detritus, and displaying counts on land in near real time. During a 7-day survey, 17 million particles were processed in real time.
